Lesieli - Parts of a cell

Fill in the gaps to make these sentences complete.

All living things on earth, from the tiniest creatures to the tallest of trees

are made of microscopic parts called cells.

Both plant cells and animal cells are surrounded by a cell membrane. The

cell membrane is a thin flexible layer that separates the inside of the cell

from the outside of the cell. It protects the cell and controls what is

allowed to go in food and come out.

In photosynthesis, chlorophyll absorbs energy from sunlight and creates

sugar to feed the plant. Simple plants have chloroplast in them but

more complex ones may have hundreds cells and the tiny organelles

inside then do the work that allows living things to live and function.

Find other resources which will help you understand more about cells.

They can be clips from Youtube or texts. Think about how these

resources can be understood by your peers. Insert the links on this doc.

Without cells, there would be no life on earth. Do you agree with

this statement or not? Why?

I agree because the cell creates the structure of our body and of course

the building blocks of all living things.

Write a simple information report to describe what cells are. Your audience

will be Room 8 who are Year 3 and 4. Think about the vocabulary you will

use in your writing and the explanations. These will need to be understood

by the Junior class.

Cells are inside every living thing on earth, they are inside

plants, humans, animals, cells are the basic building blocks of

living things, that's why it is an important part of our body.

Which scientist is famous for researching cells?

James Alexander Thomas was a cell biologist but he was best known for

stem cell research. He went to Alma Mater university of lllinois at

Urbana-Champaign (1981) University of Pennsylvania (1988).

How do cells help our bodies?

Cells are the basic blocks of all living things without cells; we wouldn’t

be alive without them. They provide structure for the body, they grow

and divide, thereby producing more cells. But it requires nutrients, which

they use to provide energy that cells do and to make the materials that

the cell or an orgnasim needs.

What is the difference between a plant cell and a human cell?

The plant cell has a druse is a group of crystals of calcium oxalate,

silicates, or carbonates present in the plant but they are also

thought to be defense against herbivory due to their toxicity.
